Looking refreshed, not different.
As we age, the skin naturally loses collagen, elasticity and volume, particularly around the lower face. It is understandable that many people assume the answer is to replace that lost volume with dermal filler. At Harley Court, the approach is often different.
Why more filler isn’t always the answer
Adding too much filler, especially to the cheeks, jawline and lower face, can create a heavy, square or overinflated look. Combine that with overfilled, protruding lips and the result can look unnatural rather than youthful. Karen sees this often in clients who arrive wanting to correct their face with more volume.
Improving the skin you already have
The answer is not always to add more volume, but to improve the quality of the skin already there. This is why Karen places so much emphasis on Sculptra, which stimulates the body’s own collagen production and gradually improves firmness and structure. Skin boosters, including polynucleotides, may also help with skin quality, texture and fine lines without creating unnecessary fullness.
Where fillers and Botox still have a place
Dermal filler has its place. Small, carefully positioned amounts can produce lovely, subtle improvements. Botox can soften expression lines and help maintain a relaxed, refreshed appearance.
The most important treatment happens at home
Good skincare is essential, and above all a broad-spectrum SPF 50 sunblock, every day of the year. Sun protection is one of the most effective ways to prevent premature skin ageing, and no injectable treatment can make up for years of inadequate protection.
A philosophy that doesn’t follow trends
Karen has spent 25 years in medical aesthetics and has seen plenty of trends come and go. Her approach stays the same: improve skin quality, encourage natural collagen production and preserve individual features rather than simply adding more filler. The aim is never to look artificially younger, but to look healthy, rested and naturally refreshed.
What to expect at your first consultation
Your first consultation is an opportunity to meet, discuss any concerns and explore which treatments, if any, might suit you. Considering an aesthetic treatment can feel daunting, particularly the first time, so the approach is relaxed, friendly and completely without pressure.
During the consultation, you and Karen will talk about what you would like to achieve and review your medical history. Where appropriate, Karen will also assess your skin and facial features, explain the treatment options, and set out what results you can realistically expect and the costs involved. She will always give her honest professional opinion, even if that means advising against a treatment. There is no obligation to go ahead, so you are welcome to take your time.
In-person consultation: £50, fully redeemable against any treatment booked within six weeks.
Free 15-minute telephone consultation: if you are not quite ready to visit, Karen offers a complimentary call on Monday and Wednesday mornings. It’s a good chance to ask a few initial questions before deciding whether to book an appointment.
How to book: use our online booking system, or call 01202 572727. If you choose a telephone consultation, we will be in touch to arrange a convenient time.
Harley Court Clinic: natural results, individual care.
