Botox vs Dermal Fillers: Which is Right for Me?

Facial aesthetics can be confusing, especially with so many treatment options available. Two of the most requested are Botox and dermal fillers – but while they are often mentioned together, they actually target very different concerns.

At Harley Court, clients often arrive at their consultation unsure which treatment would suit them best. Let’s break down the key differences to help you understand which may be right for you.

Botox explained

Botox (botulinum toxin) is a purified protein that temporarily relaxes facial muscles. It works on wrinkles caused by repeated expressions – think frowning, smiling, or squinting. By softening these movements, Botox smooths out lines and prevents them from becoming deeper.

Common treatment areas include:

  • Frown lines (between the brows)
  • Forehead lines
  • Crow’s feet (around the eyes)
  • Bunny lines (across the nose)

Results last around 3–4 months and can be maintained with regular treatments.

Dermal fillers explained

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances, most often made from hyaluronic acid, that restore volume under the skin. They are excellent for addressing concerns related to

volume loss, which naturally occurs with age.

Popular uses include:

  • Restoring cheek volume
  • Defining jawlines
  • Plumping lips
  • Softening deep folds around the nose and mouth

Results appear instantly and typically last 6–12 months, depending on the area treated and the product used.

Botox or fillers – how to choose?

  • If your main concern is lines that appear with movement, such as frown lines → Botox.
  • If your concern is loss of volume or sagging → Fillers.
  • For many clients, the best approach is a combination – sometimes called a liquid facelift.

The consultation process

At Harley Court, every treatment plan begins with a detailed consultation. We listen to your concerns, assess your facial structure, and recommend the most suitable treatment – whether that’s Botox, fillers, or a blend of both.

Are they safe?

Yes, when carried out by trained professionals. At Harley Court, all treatments are performed by experienced medical practitioners, using only approved products. This ensures not only safety but also natural-looking results.

Aftercare and maintenance

  • Botox: Avoid rubbing the area, lying flat, or strenuous exercise for the first few hours.
  • Fillers: Some swelling or bruising may occur, but this usually subsides within days.

Both treatments require regular maintenance to sustain results – every 3–4 months for Botox, and 6–12 months for fillers.

Choosing the right treatment doesn’t have to be confusing – with professional guidance, you’ll be able to achieve results that complement your natural features.

Our clinics are based in Basingstoke, Newbury, Dorchester, Weymouth, Waterlooville, and Romsey.
