Profhilo vs Polynucleotides: Which Skin Treatment Is Right for You?

If you have been researching ways to improve skin quality rather than change your features, you have probably come across both Profhilo and Polynucleotides. They are two of the most talked-about treatments in aesthetics right now, and for good reason. But they work differently, suit different concerns, and are often better understood side by side.

Here is a straightforward guide to both, including what they do, who they are best suited to, and the packages currently available at Harley Court.

What both treatments have in common

Neither Profhilo nor Polynucleotides are traditional fillers. Neither is designed to add volume or change the shape of your face. Both sit firmly within the growing movement towards skin health and regeneration that Karen sees driving more and more conversations in clinic.

“Patients are increasingly moving away from dramatic changes and towards treatments that help them look well-rested, fresher, and healthier. Prioritising skin quality alongside volume and structure is a big part of that.”

Both treatments are injectable, both require a course rather than a single session to get the best results, and both are well suited to people who want genuine improvement in how their skin looks and feels rather than an obvious change.

Profhilo: deep hydration and skin remodelling

Profhilo is a highly concentrated hyaluronic acid treatment, but it behaves very differently to dermal filler. Rather than adding structure or bulk, it spreads through the skin, deeply hydrating it while also stimulating the production of collagen and elastin.

The result is skin that feels plumper, smoother, and more elastic from the inside out. It is particularly effective for people whose skin has started to look dull, crepey, or tired, or who have noticed a general loss of firmness that does not quite warrant filler.

It is commonly used on the face, neck, and hands, and works gradually over several weeks as the skin responds and remodels.

Polynucleotides: repair, renewal, and long-term skin health

Polynucleotides, sometimes referred to as PDRN, are a newer generation of injectable skin treatment derived from purified salmon DNA. They work by stimulating cellular repair and regeneration, encouraging the skin to produce new collagen and improve its own recovery processes.

They are particularly well suited to skin that has been affected by sun damage, fine lines, acne scarring, or general signs of ageing, as well as more delicate areas such as under the eyes or the neck where the skin is thinner and more prone to showing age.

Results tend to build progressively over a course of treatments and continue to improve for several weeks after the final session.

So which one is right for you?

As a general guide, Profhilo tends to suit people who are primarily looking for improved hydration, firmness, and overall skin glow. Polynucleotides tend to suit those with more specific concerns around skin repair, scarring, or fine lines, particularly in targeted areas.

That said, the two treatments are not mutually exclusive. Some clients benefit from both, used as part of a longer-term skin health plan.

“Every face is unique, so every treatment plan should be too. I start with a full assessment and we work out what is actually going to make a difference for your skin, rather than recommending something simply because it is popular.”

The best way to know which is right for you is a consultation with Karen, where she can assess your skin properly and give you an honest recommendation.

A note on timing

Both treatments work gradually, which means starting sooner rather than later gives you the best results. Beginning a course in May/June means your skin has time to respond fully before summer.
